Title: Mars Magmatism: An Unexpected Complexity Speaker: Dr. Valerie Payré, Assistant Professor, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Iowa Abstract: This last decade, rover observations and martian meteorites revealed the first evidence of felsic magmatism on Mars. Thought to be homogeneously basaltic, the composition of the crust is now questioned. This talk will review igneous materials identified by the Curiosity rover and from orbit, and will describe the magmatic processes that could have formed them. From basaltic to felsic in composition, the primordial and secondary nature of the complex martian crust will be discussed.
